Detailed History and Symptoms Assessment

Every appointment kicks off with a thorough discussion about your ear health history and any symptoms you might be experiencing. This initial conversation allows us to tailor the earwax removal procedure to your specific needs.

Home Visits for Everyone

Our home visits are designed with your comfort in mind. Whether you're young or young at heart, home visits are an option for everyone. For these appointments, we recommend a comfortable setup, such as sitting at your dining table. This ensures we can work efficiently from both sides or a standalone chair if necessary.

Please ensure access to a power supply during the procedure, and don't worry – we bring along an extension lead (5m) for your convenience.

Ear Examination

We utilise an otoscope equipped with a built-in light to inspect the inside of your ears and determine if earwax removal is required. Should you wish to see your ear canals in real-time, we're equipped with an Otoscope with a camera to provide that view during the appointment. Assessment of Earwax - If no earwax is found during the examination, we'll adjust the procedure fee accordingly. However, if earwax buildup is detected, we'll discuss the most suitable removal approach. In some cases, syringing or a gentle water flush may be recommended, and as always, safety remains our top priority.

Effective Earwax Removal Methods

We employ modern and safe techniques for earwax removal, including Microsuction, a gentle vacuum-like process that ensures efficient and comfortable wax removal. While the procedure itself is not painful, it may be loud in the ear. Wax Softening for a Smooth Procedure - To optimise the procedure's effectiveness, we recommend using Earol Olive oil to soften the wax in the lead-up to your appointment. In certain situations, we may employ a water spray with steamed distilled water to further soften the wax for easier removal. We'll always discuss this option with you before proceeding.

Ear Health and Aftercare

After successfully removing earwax, we strive to leave a thin layer of wax lining your ear canal, promoting ear health and reducing the risk of infection. We'll use the otoscope once more to inspect your clear canals and eardrum. Referrals for Specialised Care - Should we identify any concerning findings or determine the need for further treatment, we'll guide you to consult your GP. Please note that our expertise lies in outer ear wax removal, and we are unable to diagnose or treat inner ear issues. We recommend a weekly maintenance dose of Earol Olive oil spray (1-2 sprays) to keep your ears in top condition. You can conveniently purchase this product from our website with a direct link to Amazon. For ongoing ear health monitoring, we strongly recommend booking a follow-up appointment within 6 months to a year after the procedure. Regular hearing screens every 3-5 years are also advised to monitor your ear health and hearing status, particularly for those with very mild or no hearing loss.

Hearing Assessment

Upon booking or clinical need, we can perform a 4-frequency hearing screen, providing valuable insights into your hearing quality and levels post-earwax removal. If you're interested, we can also refer you for a free hearing test in Dorchester, allowing you to experience a two-week hearing aid trial.
